On October 10, the world celebrates another pivotal World Mental Health Day under the theme, “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.” This highlights the essence of fostering supportive work settings.
Gone are those days when work and mental health existed in separate bubbles. With burnout, anxiety, and job-related stress on the rise, they are connected more than ever before. From dealing with chronic stress to depressive episodes, it is clear that ignoring conversations regarding mental health at work is no longer an option. The theme of this year serves as a call for concern to stop treating mental health as an afterthought, and embed it into the very fabric of corporate culture.
There is an alarming economic cost when mental health goes untreated. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression and anxiety result in the loss of 12 billion working days globally each year, costing the global economy $1 trillion annually. Addressing workplace mental health is not just about individual well-being; it is an investment in a healthier, more performant laboforce that can transform the economy and organizational culture alike.
However, where there is stress, there are also opportunities for change. Reason why we (Change the World International Cameroon CIG) are organizing a MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WORKSHOP on Saturday October 12, 2024 from 10:00am; venue: Maison en Careaux street, Mambanda, Bonaberi-Douala) to help demystify mental health issues and create a more empathetic work-life setting.
